Classic 55

Hiking
Brady’s Bluff today
steep steps mark the way
others have gone before me.
It is timeless
yet new

This spring greening
is like the first day
in Elysium,
the breeze
straight from the mouth of Zeus

I swear the eagle
flying slow, sad circles
overhead
is Daedalus
looking for his boy

Here is a 55+ for the Imaginary Garden with Real Toads for Day three of National Poetry Month, where some hearty souls are writing 30 poems in 30 days. Today we were asked to write 55 words, with the plus being a classical theme.  The picture was taken today by my talented sister-in-law,Joan Filla, during our hike.

  1. Sure it was, Mary. I’m not up on the classics much as I didn’t take literature in high school. I only had three years of English. That is a long story, not classic.
