Grand photo, Mary! As a writing prompt I could go in so many directions – the picture has so many things to say. (I have to get my husband to follow you – he will enjoy your shots of his hometown.)
I grew up in the Cities (as far as I know, we Minnweegins are the only ones to refer to cities in the plural and refer to any and every lake as The Lake), so that sign is very familiar to me! Jill told me to come see your site. A sight for sore eyes for sure!
Ah – thanks and welcome, Charley! I live on the other side of The River (the Mississippi) near La Crosse. Around here The Cities is quite common. In fact, as far as we’re concerned around here Minneapolis and St. Paul are the only cities, lol.

Thanks so much Jilly! I live a couple hours from the Twin Cities. Love to go there for a weekend get-away. The Grain Belt sign was just too cool. 🙂

Beautiful area! A lot of my family resided on the other side of the St. Croix (Luck, Grantsburg, and Danbury).
