I know
people kill people.
I know laws cannot
always
be enforced.
I know there are
people with mental illness.
I know
this country has
a second amendment.
And I know money speaks.
But I also know
seventeen more souls
have been ripped
from their lives
seventeen more families
decimated
And I wonder
how many more?
I am sick that I have cause to write this. It is for Friday 55 at Verse Escape where Hedgewitch honors the late, great G-Man, by having us write exactly 55 words each Friday.
Exactly. Everyone talks and blames and gasses on and on about whatever their own talking pints are, but no one has the courage to stand up to the gun lobby and reign them in. So sorry I closed down before you could post this Mary–I’ll link it now.

Thank you Hedge. I’ve heard of all the excuses, and that’s exactly what they are, excuses. Meanwhile our children, and our adults are being killed. Every. Damn. Day.

I clicked ‘like’ to acknowledge your writing and at the same time I feel such a deep sadness that these horrific events occur which call upon you to express the words you just wrote.

I too feel sickened by both the events, and the response of our elected officials. Apparently the inestimable value of a human life is less than the amount the NRA spends lobbying.

It seems incomprehensible. I feel encouraged by the ways in which some high school students are responding, their strength and courage is inspiring to me.

It feels almost disrespectful to “Like” a piece of art that speaks to such an unimaginable horror. Thanks for your expression of visceral feelings on this latest instance of a gut-wrenching issue.

Oh Ayala – I’m so very sorry. So very, very sorry. It’s unbelievable, yet again. I am encouraged by, and proud of, the way your high school students are responding. Maybe they can change things.
