Morning blessings
as I count them:
wake
stretch
greet the sun
both smell and taste
of coffee
steaming in my favorite mug,
the one Darrell made,
that fits smooth
in the curve of my hand
sitting and fitting
with Otis
my sweet dog
in our favorite chair
and
writing
a few words
while the day is still new
This is for the Imaginary Garden with Real Toads where we are asked to write something keeping the words of Mary Oliver in mind, “It mustn’t be fancy.”
Mary Oliver’s passing leaves me so very sad, yet mindful of little wonders all around.
I love your list of blessings, so warm and soothing and personal (and the most sharable of ways).

This is wonderful in the simplicity of a wonderful morning… the way of that cup for the coffee made me smile…

Sounds like one of my usual mornings, except with Zac instead of dear Otis! And, coffee mugs are important. My firs executive decision each day is which mug i want to use that morning!

I love it – the coffee, the mug, the dog, and the words.

I, too, have been sad at the passing of Mary Oliver. This is a beautiful and fitting tribute.

Love this moment. Love the thought of all of us with our mugs jotting things down.

A very nice morning, Mary. Saturday? Mary O was prolific in her writing, about one major book published a year. She will be missed greatly.

Yes — it’s the intensely loved present moment that demands such care and lifting pleasure. In AA they say a grateful drunk will never drink again — I think our blessings count more than we can know, so it’s vital that we say them.

The inclusion of names made this all the more personal for me.

An ordinary morning can be one of the most underappreciated things. Thank you for these gentle, warming words.
